RV Tire & Rim Protection: Don't Let a Flat Stop the Fun
RV Tires Live a Hard Life. Unlike your passenger car, your RV tires are under immense stress. They carry heavy loads, sit idle for months during winter storage, and are often dragged through gravel campsites and construction zones. A single nail, a hidden pothole, or a jagged curb can instantly destroy an expensive tire and rim.
At RV Canada, we know that changing a tire on a 30-foot trailer or a 10-ton motorhome isn't just inconvenient—it's dangerous and expensive. A single replacement tire for a Fifth Wheel or Class A Motorhome can cost $300 to $800+, and a cracked aluminum rim can run even higher.
The "Road Hazard" Solution Our Tire & Rim Protection is simple: If you hit road debris (nails, glass, potholes, metal scraps) and your tire is damaged, we pay to repair or replace it. No pro-rating for tread wear, no hidden fees. It covers the tire, the rim, the mounting, the balancing, and the taxes. It is the ultimate "pothole insurance" for your home on wheels.
What Does Road Hazard Protection Cover?
This policy is specifically designed for the unpredictable nature of the road. Coverage typically includes:
-
Tire Replacement: If the tire is non-repairable (e.g., a sidewall puncture or blowout), we replace it with a new tire of like kind and quality.
-
Rim Repair/Replacement: If a pothole or curb bends or cracks your wheel so it no longer holds air, we replace the expensive aluminum or steel rim.
-
Mounting & Balancing: We cover the labour costs to install the new tire and ensure it is balanced correctly for safe towing.
-
All Tires Covered: Coverage extends to the tires on your RV and, in many plans, the Tow Vehicle (your truck) while you are towing!
The "Blowout" Nightmare
On an RV, a flat tire is rarely just a flat tire. When a trailer tire blows out at highway speeds, the steel belts often delaminate and whip around the wheel well like a weed whacker. This can destroy:
-
The RV's fiberglass fender skirts.
-
Propane lines.
-
Electrical wiring harnesses.
-
The floor of the slide-out.
-
Note: While Road Hazard covers the tire, we highly recommend bundling this with our Extended Service Agreement or your primary insurance to cover the collateral body damage.
Why Not Just Use My Auto Club?
Standard auto clubs (like CAA Basic) often have limits on towing heavy trailers or changing tires on dual-axle RVs. Our Road Hazard plans often come with specialized RV Roadside Assistance benefits. If you have a blowout, you make one call. A service truck comes to you to change the tire safely, saving you from wrestling with a rusted lug nut on the shoulder of the 401.
Zero Deductible Peace of Mind
One of the best features of our Road Hazard plan is that there is typically $0 Deductible. If you pick up a nail in a campground, you get it fixed for free. If you hit a pothole and crack a rim, you get a new one for free. It is one of the few insurance products where you don't have to pay to use it.
Is It Worth It?
Do the math on a single incident:
-
New 10-Ply Trailer Tire: $250 - $400
-
New Aluminum Rim: $300 - $500
-
Service Call / Mounting: $150
-
Total Cost: $700 - $1,000+ Since the 5-year protection plan often costs less than replacing one tire and rim assembly, the policy pays for itself with the very first flat.
Keep Rolling. Potholes happen. Expensive repair bills don't have to.
