The Algonquin Wilderness Loop

For nature lovers, this is the bucket-list trip. Algonquin Provincial Park is a vast landscape of maple hills, rocky ridges, and thousands of lakes. It is the jewel of the Ontario park system and is best experienced by RV. Unlike staying in a hotel where you have to drive into the park every day, an RV allows you to sleep right in the heart of the wilderness.

Starting your rental in Ottawa gives you a distinct advantage: you are closer to the park's quieter East Gate than travelers coming from Toronto. This means you spend less time in traffic jams and more time listening to the call of the Loon. Expect to see Moose grazing by the roadside, Black Bears foraging for berries, and Beavers building dams.

Camping Tips for Algonquin:

  • Booking Strategy: Campsites in Algonquin are extremely popular. Bookings open 5 months in advance on the Ontario Parks website. Aim for campgrounds along the Highway 60 corridor like Lake of Two Rivers, Mew Lake, or Canisbay Lake.

  • No Hookups? No Problem: Many of the best, most private sites are "unserviced" (no electricity). Don't let this stop you! Our RVs are equipped for this. You can run your fridge and stove on propane, and use the battery for lights. It’s the authentic way to camp.

  • The Route:

    • Ottawa to Barry's Bay: Stop in the polish settlements of the Ottawa Valley.

    • Algonquin Park: Spend 3-5 days hiking the trails (like the Lookout Trail or Mizzy Lake) and renting a canoe.

    • Huntsville & Muskoka: Exit the West Gate and explore the "Cottage Country" towns of Huntsville and Bracebridge.

    • Return via Perth: Take the scenic backroads through the historic stone town of Perth before returning to Ottawa.
