Road Trip Guide: The Great Ontario Loop
Want to see the big sights without the big city stress? The "Great Ontario Loop" hits the province's "Big Three" attractions: The 1000 Islands, Niagara Falls, and Algonquin Park. This is the perfect itinerary for families or first-time visitors to Canada who want to check off the famous landmarks while still enjoying the camping lifestyle.
Starting in Ottawa allows you to tackle this loop in a relaxed, counter-clockwise direction. You’ll cruise down the historic Rideau Canal route, hit the St. Lawrence River, and approach Toronto and Niagara from the east, avoiding the worst of the 401 traffic jams.

Trip Highlights & Camping Tips:
-
The 1000 Islands: Only 90 minutes from our depot. Camp at Happy Green Acres. Take a boat cruise to see Boldt Castle and the millionaire cottages. Drive the scenic 1000 Islands Parkway—it’s made for RVs.
-
Prince Edward County: A booming region of vineyards, white sand beaches (Sandbanks Provincial Park), and artisan food. It’s a great spot to stock up your RV fridge with local cheese and wine.
-
Niagara Falls: Don't try to park your RV right at the falls! Stay at the Niagara Falls KOA or Campark Resorts. They offer shuttle buses that drop you right at the Horseshoe Falls. Take the "Hornblower" boat tour and get soaked by the mist.
-
Toronto: If you want to see the CN Tower, park your RV at a commuter station (like Oshawa or Burlington) and take the GO Train into Union Station. Driving an RV in downtown Toronto is not recommended!
-
Return via Algonquin: Complete the loop by driving north to Muskoka and Algonquin Park for a few days of nature before returning the unit to Ottawa.
