Shop RVs by Weight: Tow Safely and Confidently

Finding a floorplan you love is the fun part, but making sure your vehicle can safely tow it is the most important part of buying an RV. Towing an RV that is too heavy for your truck or SUV isn't just tough on your engine—it creates dangerous swaying, poor braking, and a stressful driving experience.

When shopping by weight, always consider the Dry Weight (what the RV weighs empty) and leave plenty of buffer room in your vehicle's towing capacity for the Payload (your family, gear, water, and propane).

Browse our inventory by weight class and vehicle compatibility below to find a rig you can tow with confidence.

Disclaimer: Always verify your specific vehicle's towing and payload capacity by checking the sticker inside your driver-side door jamb or consulting your owner's manual.

2. RVs Under 3,500 lbs

The Ultra-Lites

If you are working with a smaller SUV, a minivan, or a light-duty truck, this is your category. These ultra-lightweight RVs strip away the heavy luxury materials in favor of aluminum framing and composite panels. They are nimble, highly aerodynamic, and save you a ton of money at the gas pump.

  • Best For: Small SUVs, Minivans, and small trucks like the Ford Maverick.

  • What to Expect: Dinette-to-bed conversions, wet baths, and outdoor kitchens.

3. Light-Weight RVs

Effortless Towing, Maximum Space

This category spans a variety of weights, but all the RVs here share a common goal: using modern engineering to cut bulk. "Light-Weight" RVs utilize materials like Azdel composite walls, aluminum superstructures, and aerodynamic front caps. You get the spacious feeling of a much larger RV without the dragging weight of traditional wood construction.

  • Best For: Mid-size trucks (Tacoma, Colorado, Ranger) and full-size SUVs.

4. RVs Under 5,500 lbs

The Mid-Size Truck Sweet Spot

Stepping up to the 5,500 lb limit opens up a world of floorplans. In this weight range, you will find fully enclosed "dry" bathrooms, walk-around Queen beds, and even small slide-outs. This is the perfect category for campers who want residential amenities but prefer driving a mid-size truck or a robust SUV.

  • Best For: Mid-size pickups (Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado) and large SUVs (Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition).

5. Half-Ton Towable RVs

Built for the Most Popular Trucks on the Road

This is the largest segment of the RV market because it matches the most popular vehicles in North America. These RVs are specifically engineered to fall within the safe towing capacities of modern half-ton pickup trucks. They feature large super-slides, dedicated bunkhouses, and even compact fifth-wheel layouts.

  • Best For: Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500.

Bringing the Big Toys & Big Families

At up to 8,500 lbs, we are looking at massive travel trailers with multiple slide-outs, mid-sized fifth wheels, and lightweight toy haulers. While some heavily equipped half-ton trucks (with max-tow packages) can handle this weight, this is where you start crossing into 3/4-ton truck territory to ensure a safe, comfortable ride.

  • Best For: Max-Tow Half-Tons and Entry 3/4-Ton Trucks (F-250, Ram 2500).

You will absolutely need a heavy-duty truck to safely pull these rigs, or you can have us deliver it directly to your seasonal park!
